Rutger Aertseby
Rutger Aertse (Arentsen) was born about 1625. He was a native of Trent in Overysel. As early as 1653, he owned a houselot in Beverwyck on the north side of what became State Street. In 1679, he was listed among the Albany householders. Over three decades he was involved in a number of transactions on the local real estate market. He was a shoemaker and sometimes called a "Master Shoemaker." In 1674, he had an apprentice. Perhaps he did not marry and left no children. In 1679, his brother was living in Denekamp. He filed a will in June 1679 in which he identified himself as a shoemaker of Albany. According to court minutes, Rutger Aertse died on October 26, 1679 and was "honestly buried" two days later. His will passed probate in November.
