by Stefan Bielinski The image shown below is an enlargement from an oval painting that may depict the sons of Reverend Thomas Barclay and Anna Dorothea Drayer. It probably was created within a few years of the birth of John Barclay in 1720. ![]() If so, the three young boys probably are (from left to right) Henry Barclay (eldest), John Barclay (youngest), and Andrew Barclay. We believe that the miniature currently is in a private collection. But it has appeared in local exhibits and in several publications including Waldron Phoenix Belknap, Jr. American Colonial Painting: Materials for a History (Cambridge, MA, 1959), LXXV. We seek more information about it.
