Catharina Bercx Bensing Hun


Catharina Bercx/Berks perhaps was was born in Amsterdam, Holland in December 1625. She was the daughter of Samson and Catharina Bercks.

She was married to Beverwyck carpenter Dirck Bensing until his passing in January 1659/60. She was three months pregnant with her daughter when Bensing died. Overall, their marriage produced at least five children who were alive in 1663.

About 1661, she married Harmen Thomase Hun. They filed a joint will in 1663 which identified her five living Bensing children aged four to thirteen years. Her marriage to Harmen Thomase produced four or more children before 1670. She was a member of the Albany Dutch church and the matriarch of the Hun family of early Albany.

This seminal Hun family lived in Albany until Catharina Bercx Bensing Hun died in April 1693. Harmen Thomase survived for at least another decade.
