The Albany descendants of New Netherland pioneer Barent Egbertse are known variously as Egbertse, Metselaer, and Teunise. The appellation "de Metselaer" (the mason) identified the trade practiced by several men in this family! The patriarch died in Albany about 1687!

His son, Egbert Teunise, died in Albany about 1716. He had a number of offspring including Barent and Benjamin Egberts who became Albany residents.

The next generation seems to have gravitated to the southern parts of Albany County.

In 1756, two Egbers households (Benjamin and his son, Capt. Egbert Egbers, appeared on the Albany census.

By 1790, the family name had passed from Albany rolls and only one household remained in Watervliet.
