Hendrickie Hooghkerk Yatesby
Hendrickie Hooghkerk was born in August 1693. She was the daughter of Albany trader-turned-brickmaker Lucas Lucasse Hooghkerk and his second wife, the widow Judik Marselis. In May 1716, she married the slightly younger blacksmith's son, Joseph Yates, Jr., at the Albany Dutch church. By 1736, the marriage had produced eight children who were christened in Albany. This Yates family made their home in Albany's first ward where Joseph Yates, Jr. practiced the blacksmith's trade. Hendrickie Hooghkerk Yates died in January 1750 and was buried in the church cemetery. Her husband lived for many years afterward.
