by Stefan Bielinski Rachel Norton probably was b orn during the 1730s. We seek information on her background and early life. She married widower Henry Milton at the Albany Dutch church on the last day of 1757. By 1776, six of her children had been christened in Albany churches. These Miltons lived in Rensselaerswyck and later along the Albany waterfront where Henry rented a house and worked at a number of jobs. Chronically in need, his family received subsistence from the Dutch church. Rachel Norton Milton died in August 1801 and was buried "gratis" in a grave dug by her husband! notes
