John Schuyler, Jr.
John Schuyler, Jr. was born in December 1725 and christened at the Dutch church in New York City. He was the eldest son in the large family of Johannes Schuyler and his wife, Cornelia Van Cortlandt Schuyler. His father was a successful regional trader who was appointed mayor of Albany in 1740.
John Jr. grew up in family homes in and around Albany. He was identified as the legal heir in the will filed by his father in October 1741. Johannes Schuyler (the father) died a month later when John Jr. was not yet sixteen years old.
John Schuyler, Jr. died in November 1746 and was buried in the Albany church. His younger brother was General Philip Schuyler. His untimely death left the Albany Schuylers without a leading man for a number of years.
