The Schermerhorns of New Netherland settled across New York but were primarily in the Schenectady and Albany area.
Only a few of the descendants of Jacob Janse Schermerhorn actually lived in the city of Albany in the years before 1800. In the future, their stories will be accessible through this page.
The most notable member of the family, Ryer Jacobse, lived in his Albany house during the 1690s following the burning of Schenectady. His younger brother, Cornelis, was a trader and Albany resident. Their sisters, Machtelt and Cornelia, married Albany prominent Albany residents.
