Maria Vosburgh Mingael Wendell

Maria Vosburgh was born during the first half of the seventeenth century. She probably was the daughter of Beverwyck pioneers Abraham Pieterse and Geertruy Coeymans Vosburgh.

Her first husband was Beverwyck carpenter Thomas Janse Mingael. That marriage produced at least three children. However, by 1662, she was a widow. A year later, she married Evert Janse Wendell - a widower with many children. Perhaps four additional children were born of her marriage to Wendell - probably fixing Maria's birth date no earlier than 1630!

These Wendells lived at several locations in the new village of Albany where Evert Janse was a prominent trader and official. They were Albany mainstays for almost four decades until Evert Janse's death during the early 1700s.

Maria was alive in August 1703 when they conveyed a lot on Jonker Street to Wendell's son Thomas. In 1709, the first ward property of "Maritie & Tho Wendel" was valued on the assessment roll.

Maria Vosburgh Mingael Wendell died some time thereafter!
