Elizabeth Vandenbergh Ostranderby
Elizabeth Vandenbergh was born in July 1694. She was the first child born to the marriage of Albany-area residents Huybert Gerrits and Maria Lansing Vandenbergh. She grew up in a large family of ten or more children. In June 1713, Lysbeth married Ulster County native Johannes Ostrander at the church in Kingston. By 1739, twelve children had been christened in the Albany Dutch church where she was a pewholder and regular baptism sponsor. This Ostrander family made its home in the third ward where Johannes first became a pillar of the Albany community. Their next home on the Southside near the stockade was a first ward landmark. Elizabeth Vandenbergh Ostrander may have lived into the 1790s. But that would place her at nearly one hundred years old!
