Ariaantie Verplanck Vanderpoel

Ariaantie Verplanck was born in December 1646. She was the daughter of New Netherland pioneers Abraham Isaacse and Maria Vigne Verplanck. Perhaps she grew up a middle child in a large family in New Amsterdam/Manhattan.

In 1668, she married Albany resident Melgert Wynantse Vanderpoel. The marriage produced at least eight children prior to her death. In 1683, she was identified as a member of the Albany Dutch church. Her last child was christened in June 1689. Her husband remarried in 1692 and appears to have died by 1710.

These Vanderpoels seems to have raised their family in a house on the hill while Melgert Wynantse owned additional property in and around Albany.

Ariaantie Verplanck Vanderpoel did not live fifty years. This daughter of New Netherland was the first wife of a prominent Albany proprietor and businessman.
