Maria Van Schaick Miller

Maria Van Schaick was born during the 1760s. Several possibilities exist to connect her with one of the Van Schaick families living in Albany and its environs at that time.

In June 1791, she would have been in her early twenties when she married German-born newcomer Christian Miller at the Albany Dutch church. By 1798, the marriage had produced four sons. From their names, it would seem that her father was one of several Albany County Gozen Van Schaicks who sired children during the 1760s.

By the 1800s, these Millers settled in at 56-58 State Street where Miller emerged from the sponsorship of John Tayler to become a business leader and prominent churchman.

Maria Van Schaick Miller lost her husband in 1844. She died in April 1850 at the age of eighty-two.
