Elizabeth Van Zandt Barret
Elizabeth Van Zandt was born in December 1738. She was the last of eleven children born to the marriage of Johannes and Sara Hilton Van Zandt. She grew up in a weaver's home on Albany's Southside but lost her mother in 1743.
In November 1765, she married her younger Southside neighbor, Thomas Barret, at the Albany Dutch church. Their marriage appears to have been childless. She was a pewholder at the Dutch church while her husband belonged to St. Peter's. By 1815, she had joined the second Dutch Reformed Church.
Elizabeth was named sole executor in the will filed by her husband in January 1788. However, he lived until 1813. After that, her name dropped from Albany rolls until Elizabeth Van Zandt Barret's will passed probate in March 1818.
