Anna Williams was born about 1740. She probably was the granddaughter of Albany innkeeper Thomas Williams.

She married army officer and Albany native John Van Vechten at the Albany Dutch church in January 1762. Their only child was baptized that October. The marriage ended when Van Vechten met an untimely death within the next year. She inherited his entire estate.

In 1765, the young widow married newcomer Thomas Shipboy. This marriage produced several children who grew up in a substantial merchant's home on State Street.

Anna Williams Van Vechten Shipboy died after 1790 but before Thomas Shipboy died in 1797. Their daughter, Rosina, married Sebastian Visscher.
