Catharina Wendell Cuyler

Catharina Wendell was born in January 1705. She was the daughter of Harmanus and Anna Glen Wendell. She grew up in a large family in a prominent trader's home on upper State Street.

In October 1727, she married Johannes A. Cuyler at the Albany Dutch church. By 1746, the marriage had produced seven children who were christened in the church where she was a pewholder and regular baptism sponsor.

These Cuylers lived on Market Street where Johannes sought to follow his family in business and in regional landholding.

However, traditional sources say that Catharina Wendell Cuyler died in April 1746 - four months after the birth of their last child. She had lived forty-one years. Her husband passed in October 1746. The fate of their orphaned children is not yet clear.
