Landowners interested in learning more about woodland pools and the wildlife that depend on them, are welcomed to attend a workshop to be held at the CCE Dutchess Co. Farm and Home Center, Rt. 44, in Millbrook, on Sat., Mar. 31, 2007. Woodland pools, called vernal pools, are unique components of woodlands that provide critically important habitat for a host of interesting wildlife species.
This workshop is designed to provide landowners, land managers, and educators with the information and field experience they need to understand, recognize and protect woodland pools and the animals that live there. A field session to area pools will include “hands-on” opportunities to learn to recognize frogs, salamanders, amphibian egg masses, and other vernal pool organisms. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn GPS (Global Positioning System) basics and become a “Woodland Pool Steward.”
The registration fee of $12 includes refreshments, lunch, and publications. Please register by March 26 by mailing or faxing registration form to Diana Bryant, Woodland Pools, 108 Fernow Hall, Ithaca, NY 14853. fx 607-255-2815.
