Subject: BioBlitz Announcement: Bioblitz in Westchester County, Bedford Audubon Society, June 1-3, 2007
Posting Date: 4/16/07

BIOBLITZ SCIENTISTS AND VOLUNTEERS: Thanks to a very generous grant from the Leon Levy Foundation, this June the Bedford Audubon Society will be conducting one of the largest BioBlitz on record. This is made possible with the cooperation of Westchester County Parks, Westchester Land Trust, WildMetro, the New York Botanical Garden, and John Jay HS at Cross River. We have set the ambitious goal of conducting biodiversity surveys at six locations across northern Westchester. Due to the number of preserves included in the survey the event will take place over a 48-hour time period, from 2pm on Friday, June 1 to 4pm on Sunday, June 3.

We are looking for help in the areas of aquatic invertebrates, terrestrial invertebrates, and aquatic plants. We will have camping and some beds available for those staying the night. Food will be provided during the course of the event. In addition, we can provide a stipend to those that request it. The amount of the stipend is dependent on experience and length of time that you will be helping.

Please contact Brian Bielfelt at bioblitz@bedfordaudubon.org if you are interested. Please title your emails “I want to bioblitz.” At the minimum, please include in your email what taxonomic groups you can identify and how long you can help.
