Geology: Gastropods to Garnet
How did ancient sea creatures become entombed in rock formations?
What do garnet, sandpaper and a nail file have in common? Peel away sheets of mica and feel the difference between graphite and lead. Layers of history are uncovered in this introduction to geology and paleontology.

People of the Longhouse
Sit in a full-size reconstruction of a section of a Mohawk longhouse and discover why the longhouse was not just a place to live, but also a symbol of the Iroquois confederacy. Learn about the different responsibilities men and women had in the Iroquois village of 500 years ago and then explore the values of this still living culture.

Seashore and Salt Marsh
New York's seashore and salt marsh environments are home to a diverse population of plants and animals. Sit under the skeleton of an Atlantic Right Whale, hold a sea shell, and touch the webbing of a sea-bird's foot. What threatens their existence today and how can we help to protect this intricate web of life?

Street Scenes: New York City in 1895
Take a stroll through the urban atmosphere of the Gilded Age. Stop on Hester Street to recreate life in a typical New York tenement neighborhood. Then enjoy dinner at Delmonico's restaurant before retiring to your Fifth Avenue Mansion. Find out if the "good old days" were good for everyone.

Adirondack Peeks
The Adirondack Park is one of the nation's largest protected natural environments. How did this vast mountain range develop? How did logging, mining and the tourist industry affect the land and its inhabitants? Visit a fishing camp and a 19th century mine.

Metro-Intro
How does a city grow from a trading port to a thriving metropolis? What problems do we face as the population expands and technology evolves? Visit the Wall Street stock exchange, rush to catch the crowded A-Train, and don't forget to shuffle your feet to Sesame Street.

Native Peoples of New York
Take a journey into the past to meet the people who were the first inhabitants of New York. What kind of tools did they need to survive as hunters? What affect did the changing environment have on their way of life? Visit the three sisters then sit in a Mohawk Longhouse and listen while grandmother tells stories you can learn by. Don't forget to stop by and examine the artwork of today's Native Peoples in the Governor's Collection of Contemporary Native American Crafts
