A...B...What Do You See?
Experience an alphabet treasure hunt through the Adirondack Wilderness exhibit. Learn about the Adirondacks, Bark, and Cougar with hands-on Museum objects and eyes-on observation of exhibits. This learning activity is a Diamond (Herkimer) to behold.

Cradleboards and Cornhusk Dolls
Explore the life of a young Iroquois child of 500 years ago by pounding corn into cornmeal in a wooden mortar, trying on a cradleboard, feeling a cornhusk doll, and sitting in a full-size re-creation of a section of a Mohawk longhouse. Your students can see how corn grows in The Growing Field where, when they look closely, they will discover a snake and a spider-web.

Fur and Feathers
Meet ducks, owls, squirrels, beavers, and more as your students explore the wonderful world of birds and mammals. Compare the teeth of a fox with the claws of an owl and learn their similar uses. Visit the bear or deer exhibit to see the special adaptations of large mammals in New York State. Discover differences and similarities between our feathered and furry animal friends!
