FON X Purchase Award of $20,000

The purchase(s) will be selected on the basis of high technical quality, scientific accuracy, aesthetic achievement, and educational value. The selection will be made by a committee of scientists, artists and museum curators and will be announced at the exhibit reception on April 17, 2008. The purchased artwork becomes part of the permanent collection owned by the people of New York state. This collection comprises approximately 18,000 natural and cultural science illustrations primarily made for museum publications. The work will be hung on a rotating basis and used by the Museum in an appropriate manner to accomplish its mandate as a public educational institution. Art does not have to be available for purchase to be included in the exhibition, but must be available for purchase for purchase award.
