At 8:46 A.M. on September 11, 2001, American Airlines Flight 11 slammed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center in lower Manhattan. At 9:02 A.M., United Airlines Flight 175 crashed into the south face of the South Tower. By 10:28 A.M., both towers collapsed, killing 2,746 people and destroying the entire complex. More than 25,000 people were evacuated in the 102 minutes between the time the planes hit and the buildings collapsed.
