Sports: Breaking Resords, Breaking Barriers is a new Smithsonian exhibition that celebrates the pioneering men and women who dominated their sports, championed their country, race, or gender, and helped other to achieve. Both on and off the playing field, these individuals broke records for themselves and broke barriers for everyone. Focusing on 35 athletes in 17 sports, the exhibition showcases objects from the collections of the National Museum of American History. Abrahm Lincoln's handball, Michael Jordan's basketball jersey, Gertrude Ederle's goggles from her famed English Channel swim, Roberto Clemente's batting helmet, Lance Armstrong's jersey and a 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey jersey are among the dozens of artifacts on display.
