The Capital District Soap Box Derby will hold its annual competition in front of the State Museum on Madison Avenue, Saturday, June 12th and Sunday, June 13th with an awards ceremony in the Museum’s Huxley Theater immediately following Sunday’s races at approximately 5:00 PM. The winners in three divisions will advance, all expenses paid, to the World Championships in Akron, Ohio later in July.

Marking this event, the New York State Museum will exhibit a Schenectady built 1949 Derby car alongside a contemporary model in its Madison Avenue Lobby. A brief history of the All American Soap Box Derby, which developed in the early 1930’s, will elaborate upon the Capital District’s remarkable level of participation over the years and provide background for June’s races.
