Focus on Nature: Natural and Cultural History Illustration

About the Exhibit

Through twelve biennial exhibits at the State Museum, Focus on Nature has showcased the work of 365 illustrators from 23 countries.  This Focus on Nature exhibition includes 60 works selected from the State Museum’s permanent natural history illustration collection and showcases 51 artists from 13 countries.

Focus on Nature demonstrates the important role illustration continues to play in natural science research and education; it promotes appreciation, understanding and respect for well-executed natural history art and provides a sample of the variety and quality of artwork executed by illustrators today.  Focus on Nature reminds people that there is a great deal of value in a closer look.
