Rattle detail one

There are various types of rattles used to make music during ceremonies and social gatherings. Bark rattles, turtle shell rattles and gourd rattles are of the oldest style. Today cow horn rattles have replaced the bark rattles, however turtle shell and gourd rattles continue to be used in sacred of ceremonies by some Native groups. Larry believes: "If a rattle or fan is consecrated and designated for a specific ceremony or individual then it becomes sacred and should not be put on display. These items have not been designated for anything or anyone."
