Mammals Revealed - Discovery and Documentation of Secretive Creatures

Dive Patterns

Whales swim underwater. Thus, boat-bound humans usually get only a limited view of whales as they breach and take a breath. Fortunately, even this can be used to identify the species. Artist Sandra Doyle compiled information from whale watchers to construct this schematic of the profile of whales as seen from a boat.
