Mammals Revealed - Discovery and Documentation of Secretive Creatures

Discovery of New Species

Mammalogists are still discovering new species. While most of the world's large and obvious species were discovered before the 1900s, new species are still described every year. Many of these new species have never been seen before by a human eye, and are only now discovered through persistance or luck. Other new species are discovered or "split off" from related species after new techniques show them to be unique.
