Travel Information
Albany is easily accessible by car, bus, train and plane. The Empire State Plaza Convention Center and the New York State Museum are located in downtown Albany across from the State Capitol Building. The convention center meeting rooms are located beneath The Egg on the concourse level.
Driving Directions
From the North: Take Interstate I-87 (Northway) to Interstate I-90 East (exit # 1E). Take Interstate I-90 East to Interstate 787 South. Take Exit #3A for the Empire State Plaza.
From the South: Take New York State Thruway (Interstate 87) to Exit 23 - straight through Toll Booth to Interstate 787, then take Exit #3 for the Empire State Plaza.
From the East: Take Interstate 90 West to Exit # B1 (I-90). Continue on I-90 to Interstate 787 South. Follow I-787 South to Exit #3A for the Empire State Plaza.
From the West: Take the New York State Thruway (Interstate 90) to Exit 24 (Albany), proceed east on Interstate 90 to Interstate 787 South. Take exit # 3A for the Empire State Plaza.
Parking
Several pay lots are located near the Empire State Plaza and the Museum—check the map of Downtown Albany for locations. Additional parking information is available from NYS OGS Parking Services. Note: on-street parking is limited in downtown Albany and most places near the Empire State Plaza and the Museum are metered.
Albany International Airport
The Albany International Airport is located about 11 miles from downtown Albany and the Empire State Plaza Convention Center.
Ground transportation from the airport is available by taxi or public transportation via the Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) bus service. If using the CDTA bus service, there are a few options for travel to downtown Albany.
- Route 1 - Central Avenue Bus: direct travel from the airport to downtown Albany is available, but on a limited basis. Check schedule for availability.
- ShuttleFly to Route 1 or 55 Central Avenue Bus: the ShuttleFly service can be taken to Colonie Center (shopping mall), which is located just off Central Avenue. From this location, service to downtown Albany is available from the Route 1 Central Avenue bus or the Route 55 Central Avenue bus. Just be sure to get on a bus headed toward downtown Albany. (The Route 55 bus travels east to downtown Albany and also west to Schenectady, NY.) If in doubt, just ask the driver before you get on the bus.
Exit the Route 1 or Route 55 bus at the stop next to New York State Capitol building, which is adjacent to the the Empire State Plaza. This is a few blocks east of the Central Avenue and Lark Street stop. For additional information, go to CDTA Bus Maps and Schedules. The bus fare is currently $1 per ride.
