Ken Hollmann was born in 1943 in Rutland, Vermont. He obtained his early education in
the Rutland area schools and his higher education at Castleton State College where he
majored in Geology. He recently retired after a 30-year career as a Chemical Analyst the
General Electric Company in Rutland.
His interest in minerals began at the age of 12 when he received a boxed set of rocks, a
microscope, and Frederick Pough's Field Guide to Rocks and Minerals for Christmas. However,
it wasn't until 1969 that the collecting passion really took hold. His collection now consists of
worldwide specimens, with one of his many specialties being the minerals of the Northwest
Adirondack Mining District of New York.
Mr. Hollmann has researched and written extensively on the history of early mines, mineral locations, and mineral collectors.
His numerous writings and photographs have been published in Mineral News, Rocks and Minerals, Mineralogical Record and
Rocks and Gems.
