Cabochon Cut Gems Donated to the NYS Musuem (04.01.12)

Frank Kurowski of New Hartford, New York, a long time friend and patron of the New York State Museum has donated a boxed set of cabochon cut gems . The boxed set consists of 72 cabochons cut from material collected from the Adirondack region's old mines and workings. Mr. Kurowski is self taught in the lapidary arts and has a keen eye for unlikely gem rough. He has cut fine gems out of the mine tailings of such locations as Benson Mines, Balmat Mine, and the Mineville mines. The cabochons will be added to the Museum's gem collection and selected gems will be on display in the Mineral Gallery in Adirondack Hall.
