Boatbuilding and water-borne travel have a long history in the Americas, pre-dating the arrival of European explorers by millennia. Seafaring and travel along inland waterways likely played a key role in the earliest settlement and dispersal of human groups throughout the Western Hemisphere and provided an important link between Native American groups in New York and surrounding areas. Join archaeologist Dr. Daria Merwin for a look at the archaeological and historical evidence of early watercraft in the Northeast, as well as the implications of water-borne technology for subsistence, settlement, and exchange.

This program includes a 20-minute talk followed by brief Q&A. Participants are welcomed to bring their lunches.
