RAPTOR RAPTURE: Highlighting New York State's At Risk Birds
Saturday, September 21

raptor raptureFollow a birding trail we've blazed throughout the museum's first floor for your chance to meet and learn about New York State's most endangered birds and their habitats.  This "Raptorous" annual event offers something for everyone, from exhibits and Live Bird of Prey presentations to kids activities and family fun!  Keep an eye out for possible sightings of live owls, hawks and falcons along the way!

Kids can follow the clues on a Treasure Hunt to look for some of the "feathered jewels" in the museum's collection; complete the "hunt" and enter to win puzzles, posters, stuffed animals, and more.  Other activities include: learning to draw birds from a professional artist, dissecting an owl pellet to learn what raptors eat, participating in interactive games, and creating "make & take" bird crafts.

Live Bird of Prey presentations will take place in the Huxley Theater by Adirondack Wildlife Refuge & Rehab Center, The Wildlife Institute of Eastern NY and New York State Wildlife Rehab Council. These incredible presentations highlight raptors, wildlife rehabilitation and our shared environment.

Exhibits and activities by Museum staff, Audubon Society of the Capital Region, Friends of the Washington County Grasslands Important Bird Area (IBA), New York State DEC, Hudson Mohawk Bird Club, Wilton Wildlife Park & Preserve, Spa State Park, Albany Pine Bush and others introduce you to the grasslands, woodlands and wetlands the birds depend on for their survival.

Raptor Rapture is presented by Friends of the IBA, Audubon Society of the Capital Region and New York State Museum; is the premier business sponsor.  Event returns to NYS Museum, Albany on September 21 from 11 -4.  Food available for purchase on-site.  Visit for schedule and details or call the New York State Museum at (518) 474-5877 for more information.
