Basil Elmer, the son of a Cornell University Professor, volunteered for service in World War I with the New York National Guard. As an officer in the 165th Infantry Regiment, Lt. Elmer experienced the war alongside the men of one of the most famous regiments of the war – the “Fighting Irish.”

Join Basil Elmer and the 165th Infantry Regiment as the New York State Museum dramatically presents a narrative history of the unit’s time “Over There” through the words of one of its Doughboys.
