The advent of new technologies in the field of molecular genetics has revolutionized ornithologists’ understanding of when and how birds evolved. The DNA evidence suggests, for example, that hawks are not closely related to falcons. Who knew?! Coupled with our new view of the fossil record, which suggests that birds evolved from dinosaurs, we now have a picture of bird evolution that is very different from the one we had 10–20 years ago. In this talk, Curator of Birds, Dr. Jeremy Kirchman will share information about this developing field of research.

This program includes a 20 minute talk and Dr. Kirchman will be happy to answer any questions following the presentation. Participants are welcomed to bring their lunches.
