Take Rock, Apply Water and Ice, Carve a Landscape: Geology Exploration in Thacher Park

10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Meet at Thacher State Park

The cliffs, hills, ravines and flats of the Helderbergs attracted people long before Thacher Park was set aside. Rising up to 1400 feet above the valley below, the ups and downs of the park lands are carved out of solid rock by water, ice and time. Explore the Thacher landscape and why it looks that way with geologist Dr. Chuck Ver Straeten of the New York State Museum. Expect a moderately difficult walk with on and off trail hiking. Wear sturdy shoes, bring water and snack.
