Charles Griswold Landon was a prominent dry-goods merchant in New York City. He was a member of the firm of Samuel B. Chittenden.
Johnson painted Landon during the period after 1880 when the famous artist had shifted his attention from painting genre scenes to filling numerous portrait commissions. |
