The Local Government Historians program represents a network of 1,640 appointed historians. This constituency traditionally looks to the State Historian's Office, the Office of Cultural Education and the State Education Department for information and services relevant to their responsibilities. It represents for the Education Department a legally-mandated, state-wide, historical outreach program to every county and municipal jurisdiction in the state.

This network of local historians is now represented by the Association of Public Historians of New York State, and this organization is a good starting place for those interested in the program.

For a guide to services and information of the Office of Cultural Education that is of interest to Local Government Historians, select the "Guide to History Resources" link above.
