Splendor in Stone

Splendor Home

This exhibit explores the microscopic world inside rocks -- a beautiful, fascinating place. It is a world inhabited by minerals with a wild spectrum of colors, textures and shapes; a world where science intersects art. To enter this special realm, one needs only an optical microscope and a thin section of rock. Photographs taken through the microscope give us access to a world that is visited mostly by scientists. The photomicrographs on display here reflect the variety of minerals and structures found in rocks -- the Splendor in Stone.
