Karen Ann Hoffman’s Inspiration for Creating Bernard the Buzzard Bag

Artist Karen Ann Hoffman (Oneida Nation of Wisconsin) is joined by NYSM Curator of Ethnology Dr. Gwen Saul. Karen Ann highlights the inspiration for Bernard the Buzzard Bag and discusses how she uses beadwork artistry to honor and illustrate Haudenosaunee stories and philosophies.

Hoffman is the recipient of a 2020 National Heritage Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. Her work is represented in private collections and museums across the country, including here at the State Museum, the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, the Field Museum, and the Iroquois Indian Museum.
