William G. Pomeroy Foundation Announces New Series of Historic Roadside Markers to Commemorate Women's Suffrage in NYS

As part of the NYS Women’s Suffrage Centennial, The William G. Pomeroy Foundation offered grants for Historic Roadside Markers to commemorate the people, places or things instrumental to women gaining the right to vote in New York State.   The Foundation awarded 19 historic marker grants in 12 counties during the first grant round.   “We are delighted to honor the leaders who fought for women’s rights and to celebrate the important events that took place across the state with a Historic Marker, “ said Bill Pomeroy,  Founder of The William G. Pomeroy Foundation.  “These markers will help reveal the unique contributions our communities made to the history of our state and nation in women gaining the right to vote.   It is a significant part of history that is important to preserve today and into the future.”

The participation and enthusiasm for the Women’s Suffrage Marker Grant Program inspired the Foundation to offer a second grant round opening in January 2018.  If you would like to receive a reminder,  please email the Foundation at info@wgpfoundation.org.   The Centennial Marker Grant Program is part of an initiative led by Humanities New York to bring the women’s suffrage movement to life.   The William G. Pomeroy Foundation and Humanities New York designated the weekend of July 29th as Centennial Marker Weekend.   For more information on The William G.
