Abstract | A cave near Florida, Orange County, New York has yielded caribou bones and a fluted point in the same stratum. Radiocarbon dating of the bones produced a date of 10,580 B.C. \textpm 370 yrs. In the same region, mastodon and moose-elk bones have been dated at 8050 B.C. \textpm 160 yrs. and 9000 B.C. \textpm 150 yrs., respectively. Similar dates have been obtaibned for mastodon remains further upstate. There is, thus, the strong likelihood that New York’s Paleo-Indians hunted caribou; they may also have hunted mastodon and moose-elk. |
