Aerial spray tests against gypsy moth, Porthetria dispar (L.), in New York in 1960 showed that the compound Sevin\textregistered (1-naphthyl N-methylcarbamate) applied at the rate of 1 pound in 1 gallon of spray per acre was as effective as one-half pound of DDT in 1 gallon of spray per acre. In posts pray examinations, no egg masses were found in the test plots treated with either material. DDT at one-fourth pound in 1 gallon of spray per acre was not as effective in reducing egg masses. Prespray counts of egg masses ill the test plots were from 2,000 to 5,000 per acre. All materials were formulated in No.2 fuel oil.
