NCPH 2018 Call for Proposals: Submit a Proposal by July 15

Call for Proposals – “Power Lines” 
NCPH Annual Meeting – Las Vegas, Nevada, April 18-21, 2018

WHY SHOULD I SUBMIT A PROPOSAL? 

NCPH wants to build a conference program that reflects all of the varied and diverse corners of the public history field. We aspire for our conference to be a space where practitioners and academics can learn from one another, where theory and practical skills and exemplary projects share the spotlight, and where students can get their feet wet even as seasoned public historians continue to push the field forward. To make this a reality, we need YOUR ideas, presentations, provocations, and projects. 

WHAT IS THE PROGRAM COMMITTEE LOOKING FOR?

We welcome submissions from all areas of the field, including (but not limited to!) museums, historic preservation, teaching, archives, heritage management, tourism, consulting, and public service. 

This year, the Program Committee particularly seeks to prioritize:

  • Proposals that include traditionally underrepresented voices or contribute to showcasing the full intersectional and inclusive potential of public history work
  • Proposals that consider public impact and the points of view of relevant collaborators (a new session format, “Community Viewpoints,” has been created to showcase such proposals)
  • Proposals that speak to the theme “Power Lines.” Public historians think about power all the time – the power and potential of public history work; the flow of power between institutions, communities, and individuals; the relationships between marginalization, identity, and empowerment; the power of place. HOW DO I SUBMIT A PROPOSAL?

Submission forms are open now at http://ncph.org/conference/2018-annual-meeting-2/calls-for-proposals/​

Submit an early topic proposal by June 1 to solicit feedback from your peers. This optional step is ideal if you have a half-formed idea you’d like to develop into a full proposal, or if you’re looking to connect with people doing similar work to form a complete session. After June 1, we’ll distribute topic proposals to NCPH members via email and post them online for feedback and offers of collaboration. Respondents can contact the original submitter directly with their ideas or offers, and the submitter may choose to select additional participants, refine the proposal, and complete a full proposal form online by the July 15 final proposal deadline. 

The final proposal deadline is July 15, 2017. Submit your fully-formed session, working group, individual paper, or workshop proposal by 11:59 PMon July 15. Presenters will be notified by mid-September and will be expected to register for the conference and pay the registration fee by November 1 to confirm their participation.
