Historian Robert Chiles to Speak on the Revolution of '28: Al Smith, American Progressivism, and the Coming of the New Deal

The Revolution of '28

Historian Robert Chiles' new book The Revoluton of '28: Al Smith, American Progressivism, and the Coming of the New Deal explores the career of New York governor and 1928 Democratic presidential nominee Alfred E. Smith. Chiles uncovers a distinctive strain of American progressivism that resonated among urban, ethnic, working-class Americans during Smith’s early years as a state legislator through his time as governor of the Empire State, before exploring the ways in which Smith’s gubernatorial
progressivism was presented to a national audience during the 1928 presidential campaign. Chiles will be speaking about his new book at the New York State Museum's Huxley Theater on March 22nd, 2018 at 7:00pm.  A book signing will follow the lecture and books can be purchased at the event.  This event is sponsored by the New York State Museum and the Rockefeller Institute of Government.
