CALL FOR PAPERS Afro-Americans in New York Life and History
Afro-Americans in New York Life and History welcomes the submission of original research examining all aspects of Black life in New York State for an upcoming issue of the journal. We seek to engage a variety of issues addressed by scholars, public historians, educators and other established practitioners in the field.
The Journal invites articles on the following topics:
Race, Class and Gender
Black American Culture and Religion
Black Arts and Literature
Slavery and Freedom
Black Social Movements
Black Political Economy
Submissions should be original research at the length of 7,000 words or less, not counting notes, tables, or charts. The citation style used by the AANYLH generally follows the conventions recommended by The Chicago Manual of Style, 18th Edition. The text should be double-spaced. Citations should be numbered consecutively and should appear as endnotes. Please include your full addresses, including e-mail, in all correspondence.
The editors prefer that manuscripts be submitted in an email as a Microsoft Word attachment to mboston@brockport.edu with “MS Submission” in the subject line. No manuscript will be considered for publication if it is currently under consideration by another journal or if it has been published elsewhere.
Submitted essays are submitted to a double-blind peer-review process. The text of your essay should not include your name or institutional affiliation.

New York Life and History
Afro-Americans in New York Life and History is published two times per year (January and July). The journal publishes analytical, historical, and descriptive articles dealing with African Americans in New York State. We endeavor to encourage research and scholarship pertaining to local and regional African American communities. We believe that local and regional studies will serve as building blocks in establishing a continuous and connected body of scholarship aimed at enhancing our understanding of the larger African American experience.
The journal also features articles dealing with methodology and trends in local and regional African American Studies. Moreover, we attempt to aid the researcher by identifying and publicizing information concerning the location of archival sources and research materials pertaining to African Americans in New York State. We occasionally publish documents that have historical significance to the African American experience in the State of New York. The journal publishes book reviews pertaining to various aspects of the life, history, and culture of people of African descent and race relations.
