Thanks to the $3 million grant secured by Assemblyman William B. Magnarelli (129th Assembly District-Syracuse, Towns of Geddes and Van Buren), Onondaga Historical Association (OHA) will soon begin construction at its downtown comprehensive history museum, located at 321 Montgomery St., Syracuse, NY 13202.
“Preserving the history of our community is an extremely important task,” said Assemblyman William Magnarelli. “To do this properly, the Onondaga Historical Association must have facilities that are suitably equipped for preservation but also welcoming to the public.”
State and private funding will support improvements to the environmental controls in the museum’s collections areas and enhance visitor services within the five-story, 60,000-square-foot building. The project will include the move of OHA’s Richard & Carolyn Wright Research Center from its current location on the second floor to an enlarged space on the third floor. Also planned is the relocation of archival staff offices, resulting in materials and staff being co-located in the same part of the building, as well as enhanced space for museum volunteers.
