Our Boys Need Sox. Knit Your Bit.
11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
South Lobby
Free
During World War I, civilians were encouraged to contribute items that would improve the comfort of American soldiers. There was a desperate need for warm clothes, especially socks. Men and women, boys and girls, all helped with this effort which was a patriotic duty. People knitted on their own and in groups, there was even a 3-day knitting bee in Central Park. Meet knitters who demonstrate this kind of knitting, and see some of the items that were knitted. Bring your knitting and join us for a New York State knitting bee.
