Join us for a special evening celebrating the art and history of American stoneware! Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for a catered reception hosted by Adam Weitsman, welcoming attendees ahead of the evening’s lecture.
At 6:30 p.m., join Dr. John Sladek, Professor Emeritus of Neurology at the University of Colorado, and avid stoneware researcher, for a compelling talk on the history of Erie Canal stoneware potteries. Drawing on 50 years of study, he’ll explore the impact of "traveling decorators" and how the Erie Canal helped spread the materials and techniques that shaped this iconic American craft.
In celebration of the Erie Canal's Bicentennial, this program will also showcase special pieces of decorated stoneware from the New York State Museum’s Weitsman Stoneware Collection.
Come explore the intersections of art, history, and craftsmanship, and experience the charm of American stoneware in this unique evening program!
