Afternoon Celebrations Mark Return of “Third Thursday” at Chenango County Museum
NORWICH, N.Y. – The Chenango County Historical Society’s popular “Third Thursday” seasonal programming returns next month with an afternoon of celebrations, to include refreshments courtesy of NBT Bank.
A commemorative ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 4:30 p.m. on May 16 at 45 Rexford St., when the museum’s newly renovated hallway lobby and community gallery spaces will be unveiled.
“We are very pleased with the transformation of our welcome area and main gallery,” said Chenango County Historical Society Board Member John Antonowicz. “These improvements were made possible thanks to the generosity of the RC Smith Foundation and Golden Artist Colors, and we are extremely grateful for their support.”
The “Towns of Chenango County” exhibit opening will immediately follow the ribbon-cutting, featuring a presentation by Chenango County Historical Research Assistant Joan Lieb.
As part of the afternoon’s festivities, the public is also welcome to an informal “Meet & Greet” with the museum’s new Executive Director Jessica Moquin.
“The Chenango County Historical Society is a true community treasure, supported by hundreds of generous volunteers and community organizations,” Moquin said. “The recent investment in our mission by the RC Smith Foundation and Golden Artist Colors is inspiring! I am extremely fortunate to be working with others who share this dedication to our community.”
From May through October, the Chenango County Historical Society hosts free “Third Thursday” programming designed to engage visitors through interactive presentations on topics of historical interest. Upcoming “Third Thursday” offerings include Visit from Leatherstocking Folk, History of the I.L. Richer Company, Give Us Water and We Conquer!, White Store Church, and The Mummy: Experience Egypt in CNY.
