Gilder Lehrman Online History School
Registration is now open!

This fall, we are pleased to offer seven online courses for elementary, middle, and high school students. 

Each course includes presentations, hosted live on Zoom, exploring topics relating to HAMILTON and the Founding Era, AP United States History, the history of voting rights, and women who made history. 

Sign-up is open and students can begin taking courses as early as the first week of October — course information and start dates are listed below.

Courses for Elementary & Middle School Students

 

Spotlight on Hamilton’s World:
Documents from the Founding Era
Start Date: October 6

Each week students will learn about an important document from the Founding Era that has influenced our government, culture, and economy. Taught by Tim Bailey, 2009 National History Teacher of the Year and Gilder Lehrman Director of Curriculum Development and Instructional Design. Learn more

 

HAMILTON Cast Read Alongs
Start Date: October 9

Our popular summer program returns! HAMILTON cast members read children’s books on American history topics and themes aloud. 2019 Illinois History Teacher of the Year Keisha Rembert leads a discussion on the book with the cast member. Learn more 

 

Spotlight on Hamilton’s World:
People from the Founding Era
Start Date: November 3

Each week students will be introduced to people in Alexander Hamilton’s world through primary source documents. Taught by Tim Bailey, 2009 National History Teacher of the Year and Gilder Lehrman Director of Curriculum Development and Instructional Design. Learn more

"Who Will Tell Your Story?"
How to Get Creative with the Hamilton Education Program
Start Date: October 3

Learn how to look at primary source documents on the Hamilton Education Program Online website and find their dramatic potential with Gena Oppenheim, a teacher at Saint Ann's School in Brooklyn and Hamilton Education Program Senior Education Fellow. Learn more

 

Women Who Made History
Start Date: October 5

To commemorate the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment, this course celebrates women who have made a lasting impression on American culture, government, and economics. Taught by 2017 New Jersey History Teacher of the Year CherylAnne Amendola. Learn more

 

Courses for High School Students

 

The History of the Voting Rights Struggle
Start Date: October 7

Examine the struggle for voting rights through the lens of the film Selma, employing the "Selma Online" curriculum developed by Harvard University’s Hutchins Center for African and African American Research, which is led by Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr.  The course will be taught by 2019 National History Teacher of the Year Alysha Butler and HAMILTON cast members will join select classes. Learn more

 

AP US History Test Prep
Start Date: October 10
 

This course will focus on strategies that will prove essential for any student planning to take the APUSH exam during the 2020–2021 school year. The aim is to enable students taking the exam to get the highest possible score and come away with a understanding of American history. This course will be taught by 2017 National History Teacher of the Year Sara Ziemnik. Learn more
